Eleven Good Reasons to Visit Athens

I love non-chain restaurants and one of the reasons I love Athens. Here's a list of 11 cool spots, that aren't chains, shared by one of Athens top chefs, Hugh Acheson.

I've been to all except #1 and 2 on the list but now they're on my list to visit soon.

Number #3, Kelly's Jamaican, is my absolute favorite.

I'm Feeling a Little Blue

I have to admit I'm loving the array of bright clothing that's available. My closet now includes orange, yellow, and even pink.

I'm even trying the colored jeans trend. When wearing these jeans, I feel happy and maybe not so blue after all.

Tell me what's in your closet or jewelry box that makes you feel happy whenever you wear it.

Run Tree, Run!

My First Pair of Running Shoes (June 2012)
As I've trained for the July 4 AJC Peachtree Road Race, I've been reading a lot about nutrition, running and of course running gear. You know, I want a cute outfit but I want to be comfortable.

While I doubted the idea of a running skirt, I tried it and love it. And, I bit the bullet and bought running shoes from my local New Balance store.

I recently discovered Black Girls Run!, which according to the website, was created in an effort to tackle the growing obesity epidemic in the African-American community and provide encouragement and resources to both new and veteran runners. There's not a Black Girls Run! group in my area but close enough that maybe I'll join.

I've embraced running and race day is almost here. It's ambitious of me to think I can run the entire 10K, but I'm going to give it my best effort and hopefully look stylish too.

Nothing beats a miss, but a try. I'll definitely cross the finish line.

If You Could Just Lose 10 Pounds

Happy
When I was younger, people would always say, "You have such a pretty face, if you could just lose 10 pounds."I've pretty much been the same size most of my life. I can't figure out while after losing more than 60 pounds with the help of Weight Watchers, now I sometimes feel fat. It's so weird. Body image is evidently complicated. I didn't feel fat before the weight loss.

My old clothes are too big, people tell me I look smaller and the scale tells me so too. My goal was to be healthy, not to be skinny or a certain size. The best thing is that I'm stronger. I've always exercised, but now I can run farther and do more pushups and I've finally participating in the Peachtree Road Race.

Shopping for my new frame has been interesting but hasn't been as fun as I would have thought. It's been more of a necessity to shop since the old clothes, became too baggy to wear. The most excited I got was when I purchased a pair of size six jeans. It seemed inconceivable to wear that size but then that gave way to ok Tree, move on.

Perhaps I shopped before to make my larger frame more acceptable to me and to make myself feel good. There's nothing wrong with making yourself feel good; you can be a size 14 or more and still have style.
Happy and Healthier
I had a pretty good investment in my personal style closet but now I'm putting my closet on a weight loss plan as well. And while it's hard to say goodbye to my old stylish friends, I'll make way for a few new ones.

I'm curious about how or if my style will change. I know one thing for sure; I won't be posing on the cover of People Magazine in a bikini and high heels.

Not Running in Heels

For nine months, I've been on a quest for good health. I didn't have any particular goals other than wanting to be healthy. I take spin, bootcamp, TRX and kettlebell classes so now I need a new challenge. I decided to enter the lottery for the AJC Peachtree Road Race. I didn't think I'd be selected but I was. My first thought was not how am I going to do this but loving fashion as I do, I wondered what am I going to wear.

I'm often in high heels and this model looks cute but I'm going to have to come up with something practical. As I was looking around, I discovered running skirts. I like skirts but not sure about that. I'll have to check it out.

I'm heading out for a morning run. Wish me luck on finishing the race while looking stylish!

Color Me Spring

Spring often brings the desire to update your closet, home, and maybe hair and makeup. If you need some inspiration, checkout the Pantone Spring Color Trend for 2012. My favorite color is and always will be red but I've been experimenting with shades of orange. I found this Nine West bag and and matching shoes from my favorite TJMaxx.  This should put some spring in my step.
